The previous Chapter Advisor for Alpha Phi (and my friend) Bianca, recently asked me if I could make her a tshirt quilt. She said she had a TON of shirts but I didn't believe her. When she finally brought them over, they were in a big suitcase and she wasn't kidding - there were a ton. First thing I did was to make a rough layout so I could quote her based on the finished size. There were so many shirts, the only way I could do it was to make it double sided.

Friday was Alpha Phi’s 4th Annual Red Dress Gala to raise money for Women’s Heart Health. Each year, the sorority hosts a formal evening including dinner and dancing and guests are encouraged to wear red. They still tickets to the event for around $45 each and then all of the proceeds go to the Alpha Phi Foundation who distributes the money as grants to various organizations across the country who excel in the area of heart health and heart disease research. This year I attended by myself (no Ryan and the other advisors couldn’t come either) and it went pretty well. The girls ended up selling 275 tickets compared to last year’s 250. Between ticket sales and the auction, I think they will probably have at least a couple thousand to donate to the foundation – maybe more!
Saturday the collegians and alumnae gathered at the new Greek Village to see the new housing and hang out together. Not everyone has moved in yet to the new housing so it was a little sparse but it was nice to see where they will be at. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see what the chapter room (main/great room where they would have large meetings) would look like so hopefully they’ll get to move in soon and we can see how that will be set up. By the time I got home after hanging out, it was already almost 6pm and all the alumnae had agreed to meet back up at the Broken Barrel Tavern for food and drinks at 7pm so I didn’t have time to get much of anything done before I headed back out to socialize some more. There weren’t very many alumnae who were able to attend this year (so sad!) but it was fun to catch up with the few who were around! Finally, on Sunday they had a day at the beach but I wasn’t able to go because I needed to get some freezer cooking done (more on that soon!). The events were planned well but next year we need to make sure more alumnae can make it out! I think there were only 5 of us who came out this year when last year there were around 30. As most of you know, I am on the advisory board for the chapter of Alpha Phi at Florida Tech. One of the girls who I advise is in charge of the new member education and experience and she approached me over the summer about an idea she had. She wanted to give all the girls journals so that they could make notes or even use it like a diary. Well it just so happened that I had just made a Journal Cover for myself so of course I volunteered to make some for the new girls – all 15 of them!
The day after Valentine's day, I left with 7 of the Alpha Phi collegians to go to a Regional Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. This conference is held every year and the purpose is to provide each of the officers with specific training to help them do their job as well as to help them become better leaders. We left Friday morning around 6am and got there in the early afternoon. We started right away with a meeting with some of the regional team to go over anything that we might need help with. After that was a dinner and welcoming thing and by the time we were done it was almost 11pm. Some of the other advisors were all going to hang out but I was so tired I just went to bed - I felt like such a fuddy duddy. Here's an awesome picture of me sleeping in the car, LOL.
I know, I know, Valentine's day was over a week ago but I'm still playing catch up. I like to still write the posts even if I don't get them up until a little later. Ryan and I don't really do cards or gifts for each other except for maybe something small. I got Ryan TWO bags of starburst jellybeans - I probably should have gotten him an extra toothbrush too lol. And for me, he stopped on his way home at Downtown Produce ( a local meats and produce place) and got us two thick steaks, some huge sea scallops and giant potatoes to bake. When I got home, he had this delicious dinner waiting for me:
So at my last post it had been 5 days since I posted and I couldn't believe how much time I let go by...now here it is 9 days after that without another post, LOL. Let's start with the end of the Alpha Phi weekend about a week and a half ago. I totally forgot to take a picture of my fingernails I painted and since I didn't have any other pics I figured I better post this one, heehee. I did a red base and then silver tips and then someone suggested I paint a thin white line between the red and silver. But after I did that I wanted rhinestones on my nails. Unfortunately, all the other girls needed help so I only put them on one hand hahaha. I just used a little extra topcoat to secure them and that didn't seem to be quite enough - on all four fingers they fell off within a couple days (only the ones on my thumb stayed on).
5 days since I last posted, yikes!! I was doing so good in January...I'll have to start typing up my blog posts at work on my lunch breaks again - that way when it's late and I'm tired, all I have to do is publish them, heehee. Well let's see, what's happened since Rusty and the Moore posse last visited us? We had a fairly normal week and it was busy as usual. Ryan played some ingress, I had some Alpha Phi meetings and then all the usual chores and housework.
It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting at Nate and Kayla's New Year's Eve party, wondering what the year would bring. Ryan had mentioned the possibility of a "secret vacation" and I was excited but trying to make sure I didn't expect him to propose on the trip. As I started thinking more about it, I decided to look back and appreciate all that has happened this year.
I just realized I didn't post any updates about Red Dress Gala (RDG) which was last Friday. Ryan and I went to the philanthropy event hosted by Alpha Phi to raise money for women's heart health and cardiac care organizations. The tickets were $35 each which isn't too bad considering it included a full dinner. The event was held at the Hilton Rialto
I know I said it last week - I can't believe it has been a whole week since I last blogged! Ok where were we...I think I last blogged about a week ago on Saturday morning. Well, I drove up to Orlando for an Alpha Phi Alumnae Founder's Day lunch. I've been very active in Alpha Phi lately and it's partly because multiple facets are busy at the same time.
I am involved in Alpha Phi in a few different ways. The one that keeps me busiest is as a volunteer Advisor for the Florida Tech chapter. I help support one specific department and provide guidance on how to improve. Secondly, the Florida Tech chapter sometimes hosts events and things for their alumnae (like me) so I try to go to those when I can to reconnect with other girls I went to school with and meet some other women who were there long before me. Lastly, each major city or area has an alumnae chapter of women who meet occasionally to socialize, raise money for philanthropy and support the collegiate chapters. There isn’t a chapter in Palm Bay but there is one in Orlando that recently formed. I have been wanting to meet up with them but, as you know, I have been very busy and haven’t been able to get up there. But finally they scheduled a founder’s day luncheon I could go to. |
